Magazine Research

Welcome back to my blog!

Today's update involves my research on the history of magazines as well as the different types of magazines that you can find for purchase today. The first magazines go back hundreds of years, with the first one being published in 1663 by Johann Rist. Rist was a theologian and poet, which led to his magazine summarizing new books and publishing scholarly articles. Though you can find something similar today in science magazines, these first magazines were nothing like those of today, and they could be considered a 'beta' stage in the creation of the magazines that we know today.

It was not until 1731, that Edward Cave published a periodical which was titled 'The Gentlemen's Magazine'. Edward wanted to create a magazine that would be interesting to the general public, and not just to scholars and other educated individuals. Because of this, his magazine had just about everything: essays, poems, stories, and political musings. His publication would be the first to reach a wide audience, and future publications like his would soon be known as 'magazines' following his usage of the term.

There are a plethora of different magazines to choose from. Here are just a few:

  • Cooking Magazines
  • Art Magazines
  • Gaming Magazines
  • Fashion Magazines
  • Health Magazines
  • Tech Magazies
  • Children's Magazines
  • Business Magazines

And the list goes on and on.

So, why are there so many different kinds of magazines? Well, mass media is something that has been exploding in recent years, and people's interests have exploded as well. There's a magazine for almost every kind of interest out there, and with information circulating rapidly it's very easy for these publishing companies to put out new magazines constantly with the constant stream of information they're receiving. So what magazine suits me the best? Stick around for my next post to find out!

Goodbye, and see you soon with another update!
